Phase 2 of Circuito de Navarra improvements underway

31 July 2024

MotorSport Vision (MSV) is pleased to confirm that the second phase of Circuito de Navarra’s multi-million Euro redevelopment programme is now fully underway, as scheduled. This latest raft of changes at the circuit, located in northern Spain, includes the most significant improvements to the track layout in the venue’s history.

The headline alteration during this period of works is the finalisation of an all-new 4.3km layout which will open later this summer. The upgraded configuration includes the addition of a straight immediately following Turn 10 which leads directly into a new sequence of corners as part of a 650-metre extension.

A banked hairpin is under construction as Turn 11, having been designed both to add a fresh challenge and create an additional overtaking opportunity. This exits to a new Turn 12 and into an exciting, all-new high speed right-left sequence through Turns 13 and 14 before the altered layout joins the previous lap at Turn 15.

Wholesale improvements to the updated sections of the track have started too, with the implementation of safety features tailored to the requirements of the new corners. This includes new kerbs, redesigned runoff areas, and improved protection and safety technology in the form of marshalling systems and CCTV coverage.

Designed in partnership with Driven International, these second phase changes will complete MSV’s vision for a faster, more flowing circuit layout which will be more satisfying for those experiencing the venue on either two or four wheels. This latest part of the project follows the earlier transformation of Turns 5 and 6 into a continuous high-speed corner, and extensive resurfacing of previously bumpy sections.

The second phase of works began on-time, as per the previously announced schedule, with MSV making the most of the height-of-summer months which are traditionally quiet in Spain. Work has been underway in the background since June, but now the circuit has fully closed work can begin in earnest to complete the circuit layout. The recent Ultimate Cup motorcycle race event was the last activity to take place on the interim first phase layout.

It’s planned for the circuit to reopen in September before a busy programme of competitive events close the season in the Autumn.
