Gilbert Yates claimed pole position outright pole position for the first Ferrari Challenge UK race of the weekend at Circuito de Navarra today (Saturday) after topping the opening session for Coppa Pirelli graded drivers.
Yates’ nearest rival was Pranav Vangala in the first of three HR Owen affiliated entries amongst the Pirelli class contenders. Vangala was just over seven tenths of a second slower than the best effort from Yates in the Charles Hurst car.
Calum Leathem was third in a second car running under the Charles Hurst banner, just over a tenth of a second behind Vangala. Oscar Ryndziewicz was fourth just ahead of John Marcar to complete the top-five.
Behind that, Bal Sidhu in sixth outqualified Fedor Samorukov with Joseph Dean at the foot of the leaderboard after not registering a time.
In a second, separate session for Coppa Shell registered drivers, it was Paul Simmerson in one of the Graypaul Birmingham cars who topped the order. He was quicker than Mike Dewhurst by just over half a second with Paul Rogers third.
